This large duplex apartment with a terrace is situated over looking a lake in the eastern part of Bangalore. The clients are a young couple living with their parents. The upper level was designed for the clients while the lower level was designed for the parents. The requirement was to have two different designing concepts for the interiors: A Neo-classical style lower level for the parents and a contemporary straight-lined upper level for the couple. We gave the lower entrance level a distinctive look by creating large floating ceilings with wooden trims along the edges. The centre of the floating ceilings was either recessed and finished with gold leaf or projected below to accommodate brass-lined crystal light fixtures. These floating ceilings washed the walls with diffused light creating a unique feel. The floor was finished with polished beige marble which acted as amirror reflecting the ceiling. Leather sofas in beige and odd chairs in ink blue velvet fabric sat on a beautiful traditional carpet. Highlight walls were finished with wallpaper in tones of beige and gold.
The upper level in contrast was given a stark contemporary look by a play of contrasting element here and there. Flat white ceiling with wooden batons over the entrance passage of the bedroom formed a highlight element. Exposed brick walls finished in white formed subtle highlight walls in some of the rooms, while cement walls formed highlights in others. Majority of the flooring was finished in light distressed wood. Colour was brought into the interior through the bright headboards of beds and the odd sofas. The upper level opens out to a beautiful landscaped terrace overlooking a vast lake.
